CASE STUDY: Roof Repair for the Palais Theatre Melbourne

Because of the long life guarantee of COLORBOND® Steel, we don’t do many roof repair projects at B Anderson Roofing.

But when the team at the Heritage Listed Palais Theatre in Melbourne first called us to repair a leak in their galvanized steel roof, it marked the start of a long relationship built on a shared love of the St Kilda icon.

With the age of the roof and its heritage listing, we can only make repairs using Galvanised Steel to maintain the Palais’ original look and much loved feel.

About this project.

The Palais Theatre is a much loved, public icon of St Kilda. Circa 1927, it continues to host live music, comedy shows and plays.

B Anderson Roofing General Manager, Joanna, has very fond childhood memories connected to the Palais. She could see the both the theatre and Luna Park from her bedroom window growing up in St Kilda. In 1976, she saw her first ballet – Cinderella – at the Palais.

Brad and Jo are also huge live music fans and have seen dozens of shows at the Palais. So, when we were called to repair a severe leak in the Green Room on the day Tex Perkins was due to play, Brad and the team went out to urgently attend to the leak, ensuring that Tex and his band were warm and dry, both before and after the show.

Since then, we’ve been privileged to make any required repairs to this iconic St Kilda beauty.

The Palais is a public building, the roof is extremely high and the call outs are usually urgent (nobody wants to get wet during an indoor rock concert).

Our high-quality, priority service ensures the Palais venue managers can keep their acts, and the public in attendance safe and dry, even at the last minute.
